New Delhi, Jul 12: Jamia Millia Islamia Vice-Chancellor Prof Najma Akhtar has sought financial assistance from the Centre for setting up North-East Central Research and Resource Centre for Tribals at the varsity.
The Vice-Chancellor on Thursday held a meeting with Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda and requested for funds for setting up a research Centre for tribals and people of the region.
"JMI will try to highlight the issues of tribal in the North East through research and studies as they are more or less confronted with the same issues as that of minorities," the VC told the Minister.
Prof Akhtar briefed Mr Munda about the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research already functioning at the varsity which is dedicated for the study of issues related to the North East with emphasis on various aspects of tribal communities in the region.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor had called on President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought their support for the development of the university including setting up of a medical college and hospital. (UNI)
