New Delhi, Jul 10: Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday thanked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for his decision to allow most members participate in the general discussion on Budget.
As soon as the House assembled to begin the day's session, the Congress leader made his observation and said it was sagacity of the chair that extended time was given to the lawmakers to share their views on the Budget 2019-20. "Last night House met late past 11 pm," he said.
"We in the opposition wanted 10 hours time for the debate. The government had agreed for eight, but you extended it to 12 hours," he said, thanking the presiding officer. The Congress leader, however, requested the Speaker to take note of the fact that while MPs got their dinner in Parliament premises on Tuesday evening due to late sitting, no such arrangement was there for the officials and other staff.
"Besides missing the dinner, they also had problems traveling back home," Mr Chowdhury remarked. The Budget discussion was taken up by the Lok Sabha on Monday and it continued late night on Tuesday as well. (UNI)
