New Delhi, Jul 9 : Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Tuesday expressed anguish in the Lok Sabha that the Congress government in Punjab was purposely delaying the inauguration of Punjab Agro’s Ladhowal mega food park.
Congress member from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh raised the issue during Question Hour that the food park, set up his district on 100 acres of land, was being delayed.
Ms Kaur, also a senior Akali Dal leader, expressed her anguish with the Congress government in the state for delaying the inauguration of the park, saying she has written six letters to the Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in this context.
To another question, the minister said the Food Processing Industries Ministry does not set up stand-alone cold storage projects. The objective of the scheme for Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure is to arrest post-harvest losses of perishables by encouraging the creation of primary processing, preservation and value addition infrastructure and transportation facilities across the country. To meet these objectives, the scheme for Integrated Cold Chain and Value addition Infrastructure was launched in 2008 and 292 projects have been approved so far.
As many as 154 projects have started commercial projection, including 117 which were complete, in the last five years. Ms Kaur said the government has implemented the Central Sector Scheme 'Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) to benefit farmers, adding that there were Backward and Forward Schemes, subsidy for retailers.
Cold chain is being set up as grid in the country, she said, adding that subsidy and support will be provided to anybody who approaches her ministry. (UNI)
