New Delhi, July 4: The Election Commission on Thursday announced the election date for Patkura Assembly under Kendrapara Parliamentary constituency in Odisha, which was postponed, due to the demise of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwalla. The polls will be conducted on July 20 and counting will be held on July 23, said the Commission.
"The general election to the Legislative Assembly of Odisha was scheduled in four phases. Patkura Assembly constituency was scheduled to go for polls on April 29. Agarwalla, the contesting candidate of BJD from Patkura, died on April 20", the poll body said.
The Election Commission had later scheduled the polls on May 19. Following Agarwalla's demise, BJD had given the ticket to Agarwalla's wife Sabitri Agarwalla, who filed her nomination on April 30.
However, polls were postponed again, due to cyclone Fani. According to reports, Ms Sabitri will be contesting against BJP candidate Bijoy Mohapatra and Congress' Jayant Mohanty. (UNI)
