New Delhi, Jul 3: Urging to end social discrimination, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) member Manoj Jha on Wednesdsay asked the government to enact Rohith Act .
Participating in the continuing discussion on the Central Educational Institutions (Reservations in Teachers’ Cadre) Bill-2019 in the Rajya sabha , Mr Jha, referring to Rohith Vemula who was a PhD student at Hyderabad University whose suicide sparked protests and outrage across India and gained widespread media attention as an alleged case of discrimination against Dalits, said,''Infrastructure is cramped in Universities across the country. Just visit to Delhi University. Institutional discrimination is a harsh reality in the country. Enact Rohith Act so that discrimination could be ended.''.
Shiv Sena's Anil Desai raised the situation of teachers in universities and said "Teachers have started committing suicide like farmers. The government should look into it by creating institutions on wide scale."
Sushil Gupta of AAP asked for raising the budget on education in line with Delhi government's budget. "We want allocation of budget on education to be raised. Delhi government spent 26 per cent on education. We want it to be increased in line with Delhi government."
He also asked for make available land for Delhi government so that more higher educational institutions could be opened up.
Digvijay Singh of Congress asked for filling up of backlog seats with SC/ST aspirants. (UNI)
