New Delhi, Jul 2: Amid talks about growing bonhomie between BJP and YSR Congress Party of Jagan Mohan Reddy, one lawmaker from the Andhra Pradesh-based party on Tuesday said he had utmost faith in the Modi government that the initiatives taken to double the farmers' income by 2022 would yield positive outcome.Asking supplementary a question in Lok Sabha during Question Hour, Raghu Ramakrishna Raju Kanumuru (YSRCP) said people of the country have reposed faith in the Modi government as was reflected during recent elections and said he was confident that the initiatives taken by the centre to help farmers double their income will yield positive results.
Answering to supplementary queries, Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala said the government is committed to ensuring doubling of farmers income by the year 2022.
"In order to achieve this, we are working on reorienting the agricultural sector by focusing on income generation unlike the product-based approach earlier," he said adding in fact an official panel has said that there should be improvement in livestock productivity, resource use efficiency, increase in cropping intensity and also diversification towards high value crops.
The Minister said among various strategies, agricultural market reforms, price support to farmers, reducing input cost of farming and drought management and risk management with respect to crop loss have also been recommended by the Doubling Farmers' Income panel.
Among others Congress MP from Fatehgarh Sahib also asked the supplementary question. He especially suggested that the government should suggest concrete measures for the farmers to reduce the input costs.
As more and more first timer MPs were given opportunities by Speaker Om Birla to ask supplementary questions, Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury lauded the Speaker's gestures on the same.Responding to him, Mr Rupala said drip and sprinkler methods also helps in bringing down the input costs.
The Minister also informed the House that giving a major boost to the pro-farmer initiatives, the Modi government has approved a new umbrella scheme "Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan'. This scheme is aimed at ensuring remunerative prices to the farmers for their produce as announced in the Union Budget of 2018. (UNI)
