New Delhi, July 1 : Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday sought to take a pot shot at the Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank for his earlier remarks that the second century BC sage, Kanada, had conducted a nuclear test or that astrology is bigger than modern science.

"How can I compete with you in were the one who said Rishi Kannad had conducted nuclear tests. You all believe in saying Lord Rama had flew a plane and Lord Ganesha had undergone plastic surgery," Mr Chodhury said in Lok Sabha while participating in the debate on The Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Opposing the frequently adopted Ordinance Route of the government, he said "Mr Minister how can you know from advance what I am going to say"."You have tried to suggest that we are opposing the Bill," he said adding this is not correct.Earlier, piloting the Bill, Mr Pokhriyal wondered saying he was not sure why Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury was opposed to the draft law - which only aimed to help weaker sections of the society.

Mr Chowdhury made it clear that the Congress party is not opposed to the content of the Bill per se as it seeks to guarantee reservation to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, but it is definitely against the Ordinance route. The new HRD Minister Mr Pokhriyal, also a former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, has in the past also courted controversy when he has said (in 2014) that astrology is a bigger science.(UNI)
