New Delhi, Jun 24: Population burst in the country, in days to come, will impede the growth of the nation, Mr Subbarami Reddy of Congress told the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
Taking up the issue during Zero Hour, Mr Reddy said at present India’s population is 137 crore which will touch 140 crore in 2027, leaving China far behind. ''With this speed, we will have 159 crore in year 2059'', he added.
Calling it population explosion, Mr Reddy further said that slowly this issue has been stalling the growth and prosperity of the country which is in turn, is affecting job opportunities and causing mal-nutrition among children.
''Without controlling this, we cannot make progress despite having all avenues,'' he further said.
He was joined by many other members on this issues and the Chair asked them to give separate notices to have a discussion. (UNI)
