New Delhi, Jun 21 : A day after clashes erupted at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, the BJP central leadership on Friday decided to depute three-member team to study the situation there.
The delegation would be led by former Union Minister and Bardhaman-Durgapur MP from the state S S Ahluwalia and will comprise of the other two lawmakers -- Satyapal Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Vishnu Dayal Ram from Jharkhand.
Sixteen people were arrested after the clash which claimed two lives and over 10 people were injured.
Bhatpara falls under Barrackpore parliamentary constituency which has been wrested by BJP's Arjun Singh by defeating Dinesh Trivedi of Trinamool Congress.
According to reports, shops and business establishments remained closed in Bhatpara and Jagaddal areas as authorities clamped Section 144 of the CrPC.
The state ruling party Trinamool Congress and BJP have blamed each other for the clash and Governor K N Tripathi has also expressed concern on the violence. (UNI)
