New Delhi, Jun 17 : Linguistic diversity of the nation was on display in the temple of Democracy as the newly elected parliamentarians took their oath as members of the Lok Sabha on Monday,People's representatives coming from different regions of the country took oath in the House in their native languages including Hindi, Punjabi, English , Gujrati, Odiya , Marathi and others , reflecting the linguistic diversity of the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the Leader of the House, was the first to take oath.Mr Modi took oath in Hindi. Then the three members of the panel of chairman Kodikunnil Suresh (Congress), Bhatruhari Mahtab (BJD) and Brijbhushan Sharan Singh (BJP) took oath.Mr Mahtab took his oath as the member of the House in Odiya.Defence Minister Rajnath Singh , Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari , Smriti Irani also took their oath in Hindi.
Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal the MP from Bathinda , Punjab took her oath in Punjabi while Meenakshi Lekhi , the MP from New Delhi took her oath in Sanskrit.Cricketer turned parliamentarian and first time MP gautam Gambhir took oath in English.
The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha got underway here on Monday with the newly elected members taking oath as members of the House.Protem Speaker Virendra Kumar administered the oath to the new lawmakers.(UNI)
