New Delhi, Jun 17 : BJP Parliamentary board on Monday selected JP Nadda as working president of the party but allowed incumbent president Amit Shah to continue as regular party chief till December, the saffron party announced here.
'Amit Shah has carried out his responsibility for worked for five years and BJP won several elections under his leadership. But since Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed him Home Minister, Amit Shah Ji himself said the responsibility of party president should be given to someone else,' Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told reporters after party parliamentary board meeting here.
The meeting also attended by the Prime Minister, took the decision in view of coming elections in three states -- Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand.Mr Shah worked for the party and successfully handled the general elections as can be seen, but now he has been given the responsibility in the cabinet, Mr Singh said.
'Mr Shah himself suggested that this responsibility should be given to someone else,' the Defence Minister said, adding that the board decided that Mr Nadda will be the working president and Mr Shah should carry on president till elections are held.Fiftyeight-year old Mr Nadda who held the Health portfolio in the erstwhile Modi government, will hold the post for six months.
