Wife salutes slain CRPF Commando husband for last time

Guwahati, Jun 15 : Amidst tears and wails of near and dear ones, the last rites of CRPF Commando Sunil Kalita, killed in a recent Maoist attack, were performed at his native village in Palara in Kamrup (rural) district of Assam today.His wife Padumi, who had tied the knot just two months ago, saluted her husband for a last time, before nearly collapsing in an inconsolable condition.

The aged parents of the slain soldier, state Cabinet minister Naba Doley and local MLA Satyabrata Kalita were among those who paid their last respects.The funeral pyre was lit by the younger brother of Sunil, who is also a CRPF jawan.Sunil was injured in a landmine attack in Jharkhand on May 28 and had succumbed to the injuries at AIIMS, New Delhi, on June 13 last.

His body was flown to Guwahati last evening and taken to his home this morning, where the last rites were performed with full military honours. (UNI)
