New Delhi, June 11: Senior politician and former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh on Tuesday met the new foreign minister S Jaishankar in the South Block office.
"Welcoming a distinguished predecessor, Shri Natwar Singh, back to South Block," Dr Jaishankar tweeted along with a photograph of his and former External Affairs Minister.
In fact, Dr Jaishankar is the second career diplomat turned foreign minister of India after Natwar Singh.
Mr Singh, who had joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1953 and served for 31 years, was External Affairs Minister under Manmohan Singh from 2004 to 2005 after his name got dragged into 'Oil for Food' vis-a-via the Independent Inquiry Committee report submitted by Paul Volcker.
Addressing a seminar on June 6, Dr Jaishankar has said contrary to general perception, he is not the first retired IFS officer to become foreign minister and that he is only second after his illustrious predecessor Natwar Singh.
Dr Jaishankar also met Arunachal Pradesh Governor B.D Mishra here. (UNI)
