New Delhi, Jun 11 : The first batch of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra - 2019 was flagged off by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar here on Tuesday."Commencement of the spiritual journey. EAM Dr S Jaishankar flags off the first batch of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra - 2019, while wishing them a safe journey. The 1st group consists of 58 pilgrims and two Liaison Officers," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar tweeted.The Minister felicitated the Yatris or the pilgrims on their selection and wished them a safe journey and a fulfilling Yatra.
In his remarks, the External Affairs Minister recognised the role of various Ministries and Departments of Government of India, and the State Governments of Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Delhi in successful organisation of the yatra.The External Affairs Minister also appreciated the support extended by the Government of China, underlining that the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is an important initiative to promote people to people exchanges and strengthening friendly ties between the two countries.
"Over the years the interest in this pilgrimage has increased significantly," said Dr Jaishankar, who also has served as Indian envoy to China."You all are at the juncture of something very special," he told the Yatris who were selected by draw of lot. (UNI)
