The Pathankot District and Sessions Court has convicted six of the seven accused in the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir. The trial began in a court in Pathankot a year back. Arguments on quantum of punishment are in progress.
The girl was drugged, held captive in a temple and assaulted for a week before being strangled and battered to death with a stone in January 2018. Security in and around the area has been beefed up.
The District and Sessions Judge, Tejwinder Singh, announced recently that he is likely to deliver the judgment on June 10.
The day-to-day in-camera trial began in the first week of June last year at the district and sessions court in Pathankot after the Supreme Court directed that the case be shifted out of Jammu and Kashmir.
