New Delhi, Jun 6: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the bail application filed by counterfeit currency case accused Aasu Jaif, 'to breathe his last with his mother', as he was at an advanced stage of oral cancer.
Jaif claimed that he was on his verge of death.
"There is no merit in the petition. We dismiss it," ruled a vacation bench, headed by Justice Indira Banerjee with Justice Ajay Rastogi.
Jaif's counsel pleaded for bail on grounds of parity. He submitted that Rajasthan High Court had already granted bail to other accused in the same case.
A resident of Rajasthan, Jaif was apprehended when he was in alleged possession of Rs 23 lakh worth fake notes.
