Agency News

New Delhi, May 25 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to stake claim with President Ram Nath Kovind formally on Saturday evening to form new government after his election as the Leader of the BJP Parliamentary party and the NDA alliance.

According to sources, BJP MPs will elect Mr Modi as their leader in a meeting here and this will be followed by  formal endorsement by all elected NDA lawmakers. The exercise to be held in Parliament’s Central Hall is being described as a mere formality as incumbent Prime Minister Mr Modi was the PM candidate of the ruling alliance for the general elections 2019.

In 2014, Mr Modi had turned emotional in the Central Hall while addressing the MPs. He had entered the Parliament premises by bowing down at the Gate in a gesture as devotees do before temples. This time too after his formal election as Parliamentary party leader, Mr Modi is expected to deliver a brief speech.
The National Democratic Alliance has got more than 350 members in Lok Sabha while the BJP tally has shot up to 303. Among NDA constituents, Shiv Sena has 18, JD(U) - 16 members, LJP - 6 and Akali Dal - two.

The BJP-led NDA improved its tally in north east too where the alliance has recorded win in as many as 18 seats out of 25.  The Prime Minister tendered resignation of his government on Friday following the mandatory norms and paving the way for the formation for the new ministry. (UNI)
