New Delhi, May 21: Union Minister and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Tuesday cautioned that if the opposition parties resort to violence after the poll results on May 23, there will be 'tit for tat'.

"Hum kahna chahyenge, Tit for Tat hoga, samajh lena (I would like to say there will be tit for tat)" Mr Paswan told reporters answering a specific question. The questioner asked Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Mr Paswan on their reactions over statement from some opposition leaders that there would be violence after the poll results on Thursday, the LJP chief said: "yeh (Home Minister Rajnath Singh) kuchh nahi kahenge - will not say anything)".

"Please note, there is no mention about these things in the NDA resolution, nor Prime Minister Narendra Modi said anything....But there will be tit for tat," said Mr Paswan, onetime a diehard Modi critic and who served as Food Minister under Mr Modi since 2014. The LJP chief Mr Paswan and a known Dalit face said in his address at the NDA meet here, PM Modi sounded 'emotional' when he mentioned the political violence, "targeting" BJP workers, in states of Kerala and West Bengal.

The resolution strongly condemned the "culture of political violence" in West Bengal and Kerala. "We are equally concerned with the systematic assault by the opposition on institutions ranging from the CAG, Election Commission and Judiciary to the Police and Armed Forces" it said. The alliance leaders slammed opposition parties for raking the EVM row and Mr Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Modi called it "raising of unnecessary issues".
