Pragya Thakur, main accused in the 2008 Malagaon blast case and BJP candidate from Bhopal, has said “Godse is a patriot and will always remain a patriot”.
Asked to react to actor politician Kamal Hasaan’s comment that independent India’s first terrorist was a Hindu and he was Naturam Godse, the man who killed Mahatma Gandhi, Pragya said:” Godse was a desh bhakt and he will be considered one”.
She said:” People who call him a terrorist should instead look within. Such people will be given a befitting reply in the election”.
It is a prediction even the Tamil Nadu BJP has not made as Kamal’s Makkam Needhi Maiyam has put up candidates not only in the Lok Sabha elections but also in the by-elections to 22 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu.
The BJP at the national level has distanced itself from Pragya Thakur’s comment. Its spokesman G V L Narasimha Rao said: “ We condemn it and should tender a public apology. The party will seek clarification from her”.
