New Delhi, May 3 : The Election Commission on Friday allowed relaxation in the provisions of Model Code of Conduct in cyclone Fani-hit four districts of Andhra Pradesh for the preventive and relief works.
“The Commission has considered the matter and approved the proposal of granting relaxation in the provisions of MCC for all the preventive and relief work associated with the cyclone in the four districts”, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizinagaram and Srikakulam, the Commission said.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday requested the poll body to lift the MCC in these four districts, in order to facilitate speedy rescue, relief and restoration activities.
Cyclone Fani hit Odisha coast on Friday morning causing heavy rains in parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh. Heavy downpours were witnessed in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and Visinagaram districts since Thursday before the cyclone moved to Odisha coast. (UNI)
