Agency News

New Delhi, Apr 21: India strongly condemned the serial blasts on multiple locations in Sri Lanka on Sunday and stressed that it has always opposed and rejected terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

''We strongly condemn the serial blasts on multiple locations in Sri Lanka today morning in which many people have been killed and injured,'' the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement here. India extended deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Sri Lanka and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attacks.

India has always opposed and rejected terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and has urged concerted action by the international community against terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, the statement added.

There can be no justification whatsoever for any act of terror, the ministry said.India called for perpetrators of such ghastly and heinous act and those who provide them support to be brought to justice expeditiously. ''We stand together with the people and Government of Sri Lanka in this hour of grief,'' the statement added.

At least 140 people were killed and more than 500 hospitalised in multiple explosions that hit two Catholic churches here in Colombo, as worshipers had gathered in large numbers to attend the Easter services.

A total of six blasts reportedly took place on Sunday in Sri Lanka, hitting three churches and three hotels in the country's capital of Colombo and other cities, local media reported. (UNI)
