New Delhi, Apr 15 : Condemning Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's remarks against the BJP candidate Jaya Prada, the Congress on Monday said the fight should be on issues and a decent discourse should be maintained while criticising opponents.
'The comment made on Jaya Prada by Azam Khan is absolutely unbecoming & this kind of filthy discourse needs to be condemned by all. Fight on issues, BJP has given us enough & more reasons to defeat them but do not lower the discourse to sexist/misogynistic comments on opponents,' Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi also condemned the remarks of Azam Khan against Jaya Prada and said that he hopes that the poll panel and SP president Akhilesh Yadav would take cognizance of the statement and ensure action against it. 'Unequivocally condemn the statement of Azam Khan against Jaya Prada. Politics has no place for those who cannot maintain a decent discourse while criticising an opponent.
'Statement of #AzamKhan on #Jayaprada represents ugly and cheap standards. Such statements are derogatory for the health of a vibrant democracy. Hope that the ECI and @yadavakhilesh would take cognizance of the statement and ensure action against it,' Mr Singhvi said in a series of tweets. Authorities have registering an FIR against the Samajwadi Party candidate from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Azam Khan, for his derogatory remarks against the BJP candidate Jaya Prada. Jaya Prada has strongly reacted to the alleged objectionable remarks against her by Azam Khan in presence of SP president Akhilesh Yadav.
"I am not able to tolerate the language he has used against me," Jaya Prada told reporters in Rampur on Monday and urged the people to fight against him by not giving any votes in Khan's favour in the general election. "If you consider me your sister, I am urging you to fight against Azam Khan. When you vote on April 23, ensure he doesn't get any vote," Jaya Prada, who is BJP candidate from Rampur, said. Meanwhile, the Rampur district authorities have registered an FIR under section 509 of the IPC and section 125 of the RP Act at Sahabad police station on late Sunday night. (UNI)
