Guwahati, Apr 13 : Former Chief Minister and in charge of a poll campaign of Congress in Assam Tarun Gogoi today said that Election Commission of India (ECI) is not doing playing an effective role to provide level playing ground to all in the run up the Lok Sabha polls.

Mr Gogoi in reply to a question about the role of ECI in the ongoing elections said: “ECI is not doing an effective job”. Mr Gogoi said that blatantly leaders from the ruling party BJP are using the names of our defence forces for gaining political mileage in the poll. Mr Gogoi said in this election one-upmanship of Prime Minister Modi in the campaign proved that Modi has pushed his party BJP and ideological mentor RSS into oblivion.

He always says Modi government than where is BJP government where is RSS,” Mr Gogoi said. Exuding confidence, Mr Gogoi said Congress will win at least eight seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Mr Gogoi also questioned the process of updating of NRC and electoral rolls in the state.

“We have a situation where the name of one person is not in the NRC but it is there in the electoral rolls. BJP government should have clarified it,” Mr Gogoi said, adding that if Citizenship Amendment Bill will be passed in Parliament if NDA is voted to power again.

After the first phase of election, Assam will go to polls on April 18 and 23. (UNI)
