Former Union Minister, Mr. P Chidambaram took a wild swipe at the Modi government, saying that during this regime conviction came first and investigation later and a person was guilty until proven innocent. He suggested that Law Secretary should 'teach' the Prime Minister some basic lessons in law. The Supreme Court had pointed out that bail is the rule and jail the exception.
This response was in the wake of Mr. Modi’s comment that he was 'shocked to read that the former minister headed their (Congress) manifesto committee. I was not surprised. After all, getting bail is important for his own existence', apparently referring to cases against Mr. Chidambaram and his son Karti.
