NIA arrest 4th accused wanted in attack on CRPF centre in Pulwama in 2017

Srinagar, Apr 6 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday arrested fourth accused wanted in the attack on CRPF group centre in Pulwama in 2017.

Five CRPF personnel and all the three militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) who stormed the Centre at Lethpora in Pulwama during the intervening night of December 30 and 31, 2017 were killed in the encounter.

Official sources said an active activist of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Syed Hilal Anadrabi, a resident of Ratnipora, was arrested. Hilal is a key conspirator who provided logistic support in the form of sheltering the militants and conducting reconnaissance of the CRPF Group centre, Lethpora before the attack.

They said that with the arrest of Hilal, a total four accused were arrested. The three accused already arrested for being a part of the conspiracy for this attack were identified as Fayaz Ahmad Magrey resident of Lethpora, Awantipora, Manzoor Ahmed Bhat resident of Pampore, Awantipora and Nisar Ahmed Tantray resident of Dar Ganai Gund, Tral, Awantipora. Hilal was remanded to five days police custody by a court where he was produced today.

A case RC No. 10/2018/NIA/DLI (Attack on CRPF Group Centre, Lethpora) stands against Hilal. The NIA investigation has identified three militants responsible for the attack: Fardeen Ahmad Khandey, son of Ghulam Mohideen Khandey, resident of Nazeempora, Tral, District Pulwama; Manzoor Baba, son of Ali Muhammad Baba resident of Drubgam, Pulwama and third one a Pakistani militant identified as Abdul Shakoor resident of Rawalakot area of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). All the three militants have been killed in a gunfight in which five CRPF personnel have been also killed and three others were grievously injured. UNI
