Indore, MP, Apr 5: Outgoing Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who represents Indore as a Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentarian, announced on Friday that she shall not contest this general election.
“In the light of this, the party may take its decision with an independent mind and without inhibition,” she averred in a letter released to media. In an open letter that reveals her angst, she wondered why the BJP leadership has not nominated her from Indore yet. BJP has kept indore out of the first two lists it has released.
"The party has not declined its candidate from Indore. Why is this state of indecision? It is possible that the party is hesitating to take a decision," she writes. Sumitra Mahajan, who turns 76 in a week, says that she had held discussions with senior party leaders over the indore ticket and 'left the final decision to them'. "But it seems they are in a dilemma. Thus I declare that I don't wish to contest Lok Sabha elections now." Sumitra Mahajan writes. (UNI)
