Nagpur, Apr 4: A leader of the Peoples Republic Party (PRP), which is an ally of Congress, was arrested on Wednesday for reportedly making offensive remarks against BJP leader Smriti Irani, during a poll rally here on Monday. PRP leader Jaideep Kawade, son of MLC Jogendra Kawade, who was apprehended on Wednesday, later got bail. He was arrested, based on a complaint lodged by an Election official at Lakadganj Police Station under the IPC Sections, pertaining to defamation, obscenity and deliberately outraging religious feelings.
The controversy generated steam after a supposed video showing Kawade giving the reported speech against Ms Irani, started doing rounds on the social media. In the purported video, he is seen saying "Smriti Irani sits beside Gadkari and talks about changing the Constitution. Let me tell you a thing about Smriti Irani. She wears a big bindi on her forehead and it is said that when a woman changes her husbands frequently, the size of her bindi keeps growing."
He further said, "Smriti sits in Parliament and talks about changing the Constitution, but she should remember that changing the Constitution is not as easy as changing your husband." (UNI)
