The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has sought action against Kozhikode MP and Congress candidate from the constituency, M.K. Raghavan, in the wake of a Hindi news channel’s sting operation in which he was seen as saying that the poll expenditure would run into “crores of rupees.”
LDF leader and Rajya Sabha member Elamaram Kareem told the media in Kozhikode on Thursday that the news report had proved that the Congress was using “black money” in the election. “Congress candidate was also seen to be expressing his willingness to accept a bribe. The LDF would soon lodge a complaint with the Election Commission of India, State Electoral Officer and the district returning officer, citing the violation of rules on poll expenditure,” he added.
TV9 Bharat Varsh, the newly-launched channel had on Wednesday aired video footage of their sting operation. Some of their reporters had approached the MP at his residence in Kozhikode posing as staff of a consultancy firm. They sought his help to buy 15 acres of land in Kozhikode for a client to set up a five-star hotel. In the course of their conversation, they are seen to be discussing the expenditure for elections.
