New Delhi, Mar 31: Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha on Saturday backed her father Shatrughan Sinha's decision to quit the BJP and join the Congress party, saying he should have done it long back.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of HT Most Stylish Awards, Sonakshi said, “It's his choice. If you aren't happy at a place with the way things are going, you should definitely change it. Which he did. I hope with his new association with Congress, he will be able to do a lot more good work and not feel suppressed.”
"Being such a senior leader and having such vast knowledge, being a member of the party from the beginning, from the time of Jayaprakash Narayan ji, Atal ji, L K Advani ji, my father has a lot of respect within the party,” she said.
"I feel like those leaders, that entire group has not been given the kind of respect that they deserve. I feel it was time to move on. He's done it a bit too late, he should've done it long back,” the ‘Dabangg’ actress said.Shatrughan Sinha announced his decision to quit the BJP on Thursday after his meeting with Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.
His exit from the party came days after Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was declared as the party's candidate from Bihar's Patna Sahib, Mr Sinha's constituency of 10 years. (UNI)
