Srinagar, Mar 21 : An encounter has ensued between militants and security forces in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
This is the second encounter which has ensued between militants and security forces on Thursday in Baramulla. Meanwhile, intense clashes were going on between security forces and protestors, who tried to break the security cordon and march towards the encounter site.
Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF at Mir Mohalla of Hajin in Baramulla on Thursday.
However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. “The security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter,” they said, adding the exchange of fire was still going on when the reports last came in.
Meanwhile, scores of protestors hit the streets and tried to march toward the encounter site at Hajin. But, security forces deployed in the area stopped them from moving ahead. As the protestors didn’t back down, security forces burst teargas shells and fired pellets to disperse the demonstrators, who were pelting stones.UNI
