Siliguri, Mar 17 : As a mark of salute to the services and sacrifice of Indian Army Veterans, an ex-servicemen rally was organized by the Army at Kalimpong Military Station on March 17 under the aegis of Striking Lion Division.
The Rally aimed to strengthen the traditional bonds and solidarity amongst serving and retired soldiers in general and also to provide them a platform to voice their concerns on various policies affecting the veterans, their pension related anomalies and a medium to showcase the genuine concern of serving personnel’s toward the veterans.
Approximately 2,000 ex-servicemen and their families attended the rally. Veer Naris, widows, veterans of World War II, war wounded and senior citizens of above 80 years of age were felicitated during the rally.
The rally commenced with address by Major General Ajay Kumar Verma, General Officer Commanding, Striking Lion Division, Kalimpong, who expressed his gratitude to the Veterans and their families and took a solemn pledge to “take care of Veterans and redress their problems”. He also extended financial aids to the widows of our Heroes who made supreme sacrifice.
Various facilities were extended to the ex-servicemen, which included - free medical camp, registration for Aadhaar, PAN card and ex-servicemen contributory health scheme and provision of canteen (CSD) facilities.
The rally provided a vital forum for the ex-servicemen to voice their grievances and find solutions of their pension related problems from representatives of PCDA Allahabad, Gorkha Records Office, Ghoom, Zila Sainik Board, Kalimpong and various banks. Attendees were left enthralled by the delightful display of marching bands and various colorful cultural programs. (UNI)
