SC revokes life ban on cricketer Sreesanth

Pennews

Supreme Court has revoked former cricketer Sreesanth’s life ban on Friday, televisions reports said, almost seven years after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned him on spot-fixing allegations.

In a relief for the pace bowler, the apex court set aside the life ban imposed on him as a Bench headed by Mr. Justice Ashok Bhushan asked the BCCI to consider the quantum of punishment on Sreesanth.

The cricketer was arrested by Delhi Police along with Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan on charges of spot-fixing during the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Sreesanth had argued that there was no evidence to prove him guilty and that the BCCI’s life ban was 'unfair'”. He had also accused Delhi Police of having 'tortured' him to get him to confess his supposed involvement in the racket that plagued the Indian Premier League in 2013.

The 35-year-old cricketer challenged Kerala High Court’s decision to restore BCCI’s life ban imposed on him.
