New Delhi, Mar 14 : Following a row over her reported comments describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as being stronger against terror compared to former PM Manmohan Singh, senior party leader and Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said her comments in the said interview had been twisted.
A political controversy erupted after some a section of media reported that Ms Dikshit had drawn comparison between former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and present Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying that Dr Singh was not as tough in dealing with terrorism as Mr Modi but also said the actions unertaken by Mr Modi were more for political advantages.
“Manmohan Singh, yes I agree with you, was not as strong and as determined as he (Modi) is. But there is also a feeling that he is doing all this for politics,”the report on News18 quoted her as saying. In a tweet, the Congress leader clarified that she had not compared former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with present Prime Minister Narendra Modi on dealing with terrorism.
''I have seen some media is twisting my comments made in an interview. Here is what I said - it may seem to some people that Mr Modi is stronger on terror but I think this is a poll gimmick more than anything else..,'' Ms Dikshit tweeted.
''I also added that national security has always been a concern and Indira ji has been a strong leader,'' she further tweeted.
Backing Ms Dikshit, Journalist Vir Sanghvi, who did the interview for News 18, tweeted, ''I did the interview in question. She is absolutely right. Let’s not take what she said out of context and twist it. You can see the whole interview on Virtuosity on @CNNnews18 this weekend.''
''She didn’t actually say that. She said that Manmohan Singh reacted differently and that many people think Modi is doing this for electoral purposes. I would know. I did the interview,'' he tweeted.UNI
