Kozhikode, Mar 14: With exactly 40 days left for the voters in Kerala to cast their votes for electing their representatives for the 17th Lok Sabha, All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi will launch party's election campaign at a public meeting to be held in Calicut beach on Thursday evening.
Kozhikode has special significance in this election for two reasons - the prominence of the Congress candidate contesting the seat and for being a constituency where the contest is between two equally competitive and people-friendly candidates of the Congress and the CPI (M), witnessing a more-than-political, a fight of personalities cutting across political priorities.
Thanks to his acceptance within the party and among the electorate of Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency, the sitting MP, M K Raghavan, who was an undisputed candidate and whose name was considered for a third time by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Mullapally Ramachandran much before any party had announced their candidate for the poll.
The people's acceptance and the low-profile interaction with the people by both the sitting Congress MP, Raghavan as well as the CPI(M) nominee and sitting MLA, A Pradeep Kumar, makes the contest a strong battle between the charisma of the two rather than a purely political showdown.
According to police sources, all arrangements for the VVIP visit have been firmed up in the city. UNI
