Congress president Rahul Gandhi today challenged the BJP Government to investigate charges of corruption against his brother-in-law Robert Vadra, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also be investigated on his role in the Rafale deal.
Interacting with students of Stella Maris College for women in Chennai, Rahul Gandhi said the Government had every right to investigate Robert Vadra, but the law should not be selectively applied. Investigation should also be done on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said:"Prime Minister has his name in government documents that say he is directly responsible for negotiating parallely with Dassault on Rafale. Investigate everybody, be it Mr Vadra or PM."
Gandhi who was in grey jeans and T Shirt, looked relaxed while interacting with the students. He suggested them to ask uncomfortable questions.
He asked:“How many times have you seen the Prime Minister of India standing in the middle of 3000 women like this? How many times have you seen him standing here like this being open to any question from anybody?”
The Congress chief also took on the BJP and Modi on demonetisation and the PNB fraud case in which diamantaire Nirav Modi is the main accused.
He asked the gathering: “Did you like demonetisaton?” When the audience answered, “No”, he said, “I think it’s pretty clear the damage demonetisaton did. PM should have taken your advice.”
Accusing the BJP of “imposing its ideology on the country”, Gandhi said “you cannot have fearful atmosphere and expect economic growth, which is directly related to the mood of the country. Elaborating, he said:“There is currently a battle going on between two ideologies. One ideology says that all people should live together and shouldn’t be dominated by one idea. The other ideology represented by the current government and the Prime Minister believes that one idea should be imposed on our country”.
Referring to the mood of despondency post demonetisation and GST, he said the Congress will change the mood and make people feel happy and empowered. Gandhi Rahulsaid the BJP had a particular view about role of women in our society and it felt that different languages and cultures “are inferior to one centralising culture and idea.”
Gandhi said the Congress would push for the passage of the long-standing women’s reservation bill in Rajya Sabha." We cannot empower women unless our attitude changes", he said.
