New Delhi, Mar 7 : The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Central Government to submit within 10 days the meeting date for the selection committee appointing the Lokpal and its members.
Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan had moved the court seeking an immediate direction to appoint Lokpal chairman and members.
A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, heard Bhushan and Attorney General K K Venugopal.
The bench rejected Bhushan's plea seeking a direction to the selection committee to make public the proposed names of chairperson and members of the Lokpal for an accountability and transparency in the entire appointment process.
It is to be noted that the committee is headed by the PM, and Leader of Opposition, Lok Sabha Speaker, CJI or his nominee and an eminent jurist.
Venugopal submitted to the Apex Court that the search committee had forwarded to the selection committee, three panels of names - one for Lokpal and other two for judicial and non-judicial members.
