New Delhi, Mar 6 : PM-Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC) has identified nine missions of national importance with an objective to conserve country's biodiversity and develop sustainable agriculture processes, leverage precision health for personal well being, recover wealth from waste and develop and use artificial intelligence .
The Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) to the Government of India, is catalysing collaborations across scientific ministries, research institutions and industry partners, through the PM-STIAC, to leverage cutting edge scientific research for societal benefit, Prof K Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India said at a press interaction here .
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently referred to his Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC)'s work on taking on challenges in science and identifying solutions for societal problems through technology and innovation.
Sharing details of the nine national missions guided by PM-STIAC, Prof Raghavan said the PSA's office has held 4 meetings of the PM-STIAC since October 2018 and key national missions emerged from the discussions, which are being driven by the PM-STIAC through the PSA's office. Each mission will be led by a Ministry and will engage international and national institutional partners, young scientists and industry.
The nine national missions that have been announced under PM-STIAC include Natural Language Translation, Quantum Frontier, Artificial Intelligence, National Biodiversity Mission, Electric Vehicles, Bioscience for Human Health, Waste to Wealth, Deep Ocean Exploration and AGNIi (Accelerating Growth for New India's Innovations (Taking technologies to commercialisation).
Along with these significant strategic missions, other major projects of the office of the PSA include Research Clusters, Earth Museum, Brahamaputra River System and I-STEM-Indian Science Technology and Engineering Facilities Map.
'The nine missions of national importance through the PM-STIAC, aim to understand and conserve our biodiversity and develop sustainable agriculture processes, leverage precision health for personal well being, recover wealth from waste, develop and use artificial intelligence, quantum computing, connected mobility solutions and other technologies to address frontier scientific questions and our challenges, thereby enabling sustainable development for India and, indeed, the planet,' he said.
