Ruse,Bulgaria, Mar 4: India's wrestling champion Bajrang Punia won the gold medal at the Dan Kolov-Nikol Petrov Ranking Series in Ruse, Bulgaria, dedicated it to the Air Force braveheart Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

“I want to dedicate my gold to Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. He has inspired me. I want to meet him one day and also shake hands with him,” Punia tweeted after his victory in the men’s 65kg freestyle final in the Bulgarian city.

In the match on Saturday, Commonwealth and Asian Games gold medallist Punia overpowered Jordan Oliver of USA 12-3. After being 0-3 down, Bajrang Punia intensified his attack and won 12 straight points to clinch the gold against his opponent.

In an appreciation to his dedication, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted "Hearty congratulations to @BajrangPunia for winning the Gold Medal in men's 65 kg freestyle #wrestling at the UWW #dankolov 2019 tournament. The nation is proud of you! Delighted to hear that you dedicated your medal to #WingCommanderAbhinandan."
