Foreign Secretary VK Gokhale said at a briefing, after Indian air strike this morning, that India had credible information that Jaish e Mohammed was planning more attacks on India. As such, it was necessary for India to take pre emptive steps to halt further attacks. The Balakot camp headed by Maulana Masood Azhar’s brother in law was one of the terrorists’ main camps and so it was targeted. The IAF was successful in a non military strike in a well coordinated move. The strike took care to avoid civilian casualties.
Over the past months, the JeM based at Pakistan and proscribed by the US, has been making several attacks on India, the last one being the Pulwama attack where 40 CRPF jawans were martyred. Pakistan denies the existence of JeM.
Gokhale pointed out that Pakistan in spite of several requests from India has taken no concrete steps to contain the terrorists.
