Saudi Arabia joins Modi-initiated ISA, ink five pacts including on tourism & housing

New Delhi, Feb 20: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday exchanged papers to join the International Solar Alliance, essentially a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India and Saudi Arabia also signed important pacts and MoUs including on tourism, housing, broadcasting and one on investing in the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund.

In his remarks at a joint media briefing after bilateral and delegation level talks with the visiting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Prime Minister said - "We have agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the areas of renewable energy. We welcome Saudi Arabia to the International Solar Alliance".

"The peaceful use of nuclear energy, including water desalination & health, will be another dimension of our cooperation," the Prime Minister said.

The MoU on investing in the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund between the two governments was signed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Khalid Al Falih, Saudi Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources.

There was also an MoU on Cooperation in the field of Tourism between the Ministry of Tourism, India and the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage.

The Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Housing was inked by Ahmad Javed, Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia and Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, the Saudi Minister of Commerce & Investment.

There was a Framework Cooperation Program between Invest India and Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Enhancing Bilateral Investment Relations, an official source said here.

The MoU for Cooperation on Broadcasting between Prasar Bharati and the Saudi Broadcasting Corporation for Exchange of Audio Visual Programme was also signed, the source said. (UNI)
