A day after the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, took the 'gale panda' jibe at Rahul Gandhi, the Congress President on Thursday responded by saying that hatred can only be defeated by love. Addressing a two-day meet of the All India Congress Seva Dal in Ajmer, Mr. Gandhi said he hugged the Prime Minister in Parliament despite the fact that he 'insults' him, his family and the Congress party.
'Hatred can be defeated only by love. He has hatred and the love in me countered that hatred,' Mr. Gandhi said. He was reacting to Mr. Modi’s last speech in the 16th Lok Sabha as the Budget Session of Parliament drew to a close ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in April and May.
'Mein pehli baar yahan aaya, bahut si cheezein jaanne ko mili. Pehli baar mujhe pata chala ki gale milne aur gale padne mein kya antar hai. Pehli baar dekh raha hun ki sadan mein aankhon se gustakhiyaan hoti hain (I came to this House for the first time and learnt a lot of new things. I realised for the first time the difference between a hug and a forced hug),' Mr. Modi said in the lower house.
'We used to hear that an earthquake will come. No such thing happened. Kabhi hawai jahaaz uday gaye, lekin loktantra ki maryada itni unchi hai ki koi hawai jahaz uss unchchai tak nahi ja paya,' he added.
Responding to the attack, Mr. Gandhi hit back saying while Mr. Modi promised loan waiver to farmers, he instead wrote off bank dues of his industrialist-friends.
