New Delhi, Feb 11 : Far from what his father Yashwant Sinha often touts about the state of affairs in India's economy, BJP lawmaker and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha on Monday said at present the country has "the best performing economy in the world".
Making an intervention during the debate on Budget, Mr Sinha also blasted out at the Congress party for what he said was only promoting the interests of "Chacha, Mama and Jijaji".
"Apko Dalal pyare haen, humey jawan pyare (You always adored brokers, but we stuck with the jawans)....," he said adding while the erstwhile Congress leaders focused on safe guarding and promoting the interests of kith and kin - uncles and 'brother in laws'; the BJP dispensation has always tried to work for the common people and army personnel.
Taking a dig at Congress leader M Veerappa Moily, who spoke before him, Mr Sinha said while all economists were named, Mr Moily had forgotten to name Dr Manmohan Singh, considered the 'best economist' in the opposition camp.
However, making a sarcastic note, he said all the so called economic giants in Congress had during their 10 year rule had only contributed to "destroy" the economy.
"In contrast, the economy being run by the Modi government has ensured that India's economy today is the best performing economy in the world," Mr Sinha said.
As some opposition members tried to counter him, the Union Minister exuded confidence that the ruling side will be back in the citadel of power yet again and the "opposition will be forced to eat your own words and laughter". (UNI)
