Chandrababu Naidu set to sit on 12-hour fast: Battle of wits with Modi intensifies

New Delhi, Feb 10: A day ahead of TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is set to sit on a day-long hunger strike in the capital, the battle of wits between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi only intensified further with both calling each other by name.

Taking a swipe at TDP protesters during his trip to Guntur in the morning chanting “go back” slogans, in his address at the function Mr Modi said - “they want me to go back to Delhi and once again be in power”.

“In schools, teachers would call us and say go back to your sit. I am obliged to TDP that they have asked me to 'Go back and sit in Delhi' again. I have trust that people will fulfill the wishes of hundreds of TDP workers and ensure BJP and NDA victory and put me again in the seat of power," Prime Minister said throwing the audience into peals of laughter.

This was PM Modi's first visit to Andhra Pradesh after the TDP quit NDA in March 2018.

Chandrababu-led party organised protests in various cities and towns across the state saying PM Modi had no business to come to Andhra Pradesh as his government did not grant Special Category status to the bifurcated Andhra.

TDP sources, meanwhile, said in Delhi that the Chief Minister Naidu will stage the 'Dharma Porata Deeksha' (protest for justice) at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan here from 0800 hours to 2000 hours.

He will submit a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday, sources said.

All TDP MPs, MLAs, state ministers and MLCs will also join the fast.

TDP sources have revealed that feelers have been sent to important opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Sitaram Yechury, Arvind Kejriwal, Sharad Yadav and Mamata Banerjee to make their presence at the protest venue.

Some opposition leaders would also address the gathering, they said.

Prime Minister during his address at Guntur described N Chandrababu Naidu as "father of Lokesh" for allegedly promoting 'family wealth'.

For his part Chief Minister also took a swipe at Vijaywada saying - "Since you have referred to my son, I am mentioning about your wife. Narendra Modi has a wife, do you all know? Her name is Jashodaben". (UNI)
