Shillong, Feb 10: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday again grilled Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar at the CBI anti-corruption branch office here in Meghalaya in relation to Rose Valley and Saradha chit fund scam cases, an official said.
The ten-member CBI team may also confront Kumar with former Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh in connection with ponzi chit fund scams.
Both Kumar and Ghosh have arrived at the CBI office in Oakland here in Meghalaya.
Ghosh, who was arrested on November 23, 2013 in connection with chit fund scam.
The Calcutta High Court had granted Ghosh interim bail against a bail bond of Rs 2 lakh in 2016.
On Saturday, the Kolkata Police Commissioner was interrogated by the CBI for eight hours in a stretch.
“There is no question of not cooperating. He has cooperated before and is doing now too. We are here because of Supreme Court order,” Kumar’s legal counsel, Biswajit Deb had told reporters on Saturday.
Following the apex court order, the CBI setup a fresh 10-member probing team on Thursday and summoned the Kolkata Police top officer to appear at a designated place in Shillong on February 9.
Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Kumar to cooperate with the CBI, barely 48 hours after a team of central investigating agency was denied entry into the residence of the city police chief and herded to the Shakespeare Sarani Police station and detained them for hours.
Mr Kumar flew to Shillong along with three others senior IPS officers - Additional Police Commissioner Javed Shamim, DC (STF) Murulidhar Sharma and CID chief Praveen Tripathi, on Friday, besides former advocate genertal of Mizoram Biswajit Deb.
The special 10-member probe team has been constituted under Superintendent of Police Jagroop Sinha.
Sources with knowledge on the latest developments have said the special investigating team may move to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya and shuttle between Kolkata and Shillong during the course of the interrogation.
The apex court had directed the CBI to quiz Kolkata police chief at Shillong.
The CBI also has a team of officials, who are already probing the various ponzi scams. They are under Jt Director (east) Pankaj Srivastava and DSP Tathagata Burman. (UNI)
