Mahtab demands Govt intervention on Kentucky temple vandalisation

Agency News

New Delhi, Feb 8: Biju Janata Dal Member Bhartruhari Mahtab on Friday raised the issue of vandalisation of a Hindu temple in Kentucky in the United States and sought government intervention in the matter.

'A Hindu temple in Kentucky was vandalised. The deity was painted with black colour. The break-in at Swaminarayan Temple was reported in January this year,' Mr Mahtab said during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha.

Temple members found their place of worship desecrated and hate-filled religious phrases painted on walls, he said.

'The Mayor has condemned the incident but the investigation is yet to take place. There is no video of the incident,' he said. He urged the government to take up the matter with authorities.

Prem Singh Chandumajra of Shiromani Akali Dal demanded a direct train from his constituency Anandpur Sahib to Haridwar. 'There was no train for people who had to go to Haridwar for 'asthi visarjan'(immersion of ashes). People have to wait for hours and change trains,' he said. (UNI)
