Patna, Jan 05: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Chhagan Bhujbal today accused Narendra Modi government of eroding credibility of the constitutional institutions and subsequently democracy was under threat in the country which warranted all opposition parties to get united for ousting the present regime from power at the Centre in upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Mr Bhujabal, after meeting RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha who had sustained serious injuries in lathi charge during protest march in Patna on February 2, told media persons here that freedom of expression and right to protest were the essence of healthy democracy which should be protected at any cost. Any leader, leading a protest march, should not be targeted by police during lathicharge in such a way which could jeopardise his life as had been the case with Mr Kushwaha who was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after his serious injuries in lathicharge, he added.
"Narendra Modi government has been misusing central agencies like CBI, Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate (ED) since coming to power but the way a large contingent of CBI sleuths reached the residence of Kolkata Police Commissioner for his interrogation without following the established procedure of law, it reached flash point", Mr Bhujbal said, adding that the opposition could not allow such misuse of central agencies by the present regime. If any one was to be interrogated first in Sharda chit fund case, the person should have been Mukul Rai but he was not touched by the CBI as he had joined BJP, he remarked. (UNI)
