SC says CBI cannot take coercive action against Kolkata Police chief

Agency News

New Delhi, Feb 5: Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to appear before CBI for questioning in Shillong, in connection with the stand off between the CBI and him with respect to the Saradha Chit Fund scam case.

A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, directed Kumar to co operate with the CBI investigation. "We direct Kumar to co-operate with the CBI investigation," the top court said.

The court, however, made it clear that the CBI cannot take any coercive action against Kumar, including arresting while interrogating him in the case.

The court asked the DGP, Kumar and the Chief Secretary of the West Bengal Government, to file a detailed reply by February 18 and fixed the matter for further hearing to February 19. (UNI)
