In a major victory for India, Home Secretary of the United Kingdom cleared Vijay Mallya’s extradition on Monday Feb 4. He signed the order for Mallya’s extradition after having ‘carefully considered all relevant matters’.
Mallya has 14 days time to appeal. It is the beginning of a long process once again as he can appeal to two higher courts.
It may be recalled that Mallya is accused of conspiracy to default, making false representations and of money laundering offences. Indian agencies have been for many months working hard to put all the documents and evidence in place in order to facilitate Mallya’s extradition.
Mallya’s legal team has confirmed that they will appeal against the extradition order. Mallya can go to the Court of Appeal and if this goes against him then he could apply in the right to appeal in the Supreme Court.
