New Delhi, Feb 2 : After a long suspense, the government on Saturday appointed IPS officer and former DGP of MP Rishi Kumar Shukla as the new chief of the Central Bureau for Investigation.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet made the decision to appoint Mr Shukla, on the recommendation of a three-member panel. Mr Shukla will replace former CBI Director Alok Verma.
Mr Verma had been sent on leave, following controversy over the allegations of corruption leveled against him by his Special Director Rakesh Asthana.
The three member panel, comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge had later removed Mr Verma.
