New Delhi, Jan 29: Assuring the nation that his government’s top priority is to secure the national interest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said in the days to come more tough measures will be taken for making India a strong and self reliant country.

Addressing the culmination parade of this year’s National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp here, the Prime Minister said, “I assure the nation and youths that in the coming days more steps and stern measures will be taken for the security of this country. Only if the country is safe and self reliant, can the youths ride on their aspirations.”

Highlighting his government’s milestone achievements since he came in power in 2014, Mr Modi said, “Considering national security as our top priority, we have taken so many measures in the last 4.5 years and this is the reason why India has entered into the league of nations that have capability to protect its land, water and nuclear establishments effectively. We have implemented all those things with regard to defence deals for acquiring fighter jets which were pending since a decade. Missiles, tank, guns and among others are being made here.”

In a veiled attack on Pakistan, he said, “We are a strong proponent of peace in the world but at the same time we will not desist from taking any step in securing our national interests.”Earlier, the Prime Minister took Guard of Honour from cadets of all the three wings of the armed forces, Army, Navy and Air Force.

Mr Modi also presented awards to the best cadets in different categories. A total of 2070 Cadets, including 698 girl cadets drawn from 29 States and 7 Union Territories, participated in this year's Camp.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, her junior minister Subhash Bhamre and top military officials also attended the event. UNI
